Daniel Johns Has 5 New Records To Out Next Year

Former Silverchair frontman’s Daniel Johns has got a solo album, Talk, debuted last year and recently revealed there is plenty more where that came from. Johns told Lindsay McDougall, the Australian’s radio Double J presenter on his recent podcast with McDougall on the radio segment’s the J Files. “There’s a lot of things going on at the moment,” he says. “I’ve just got on this really OCD trip at the moment and just making sure that all of the next five records are ready to go in a year. It seems like I’m doing nothing but I’m doing a lot.” “They’re all completely different,” he says of the new material. “I’ve got a record with Luke Steele coming really soon. I've got another record coming with Jake (Meadows) who plays harp in the Talk band. Another record coming with another guy who I literally met a week ago. And, obviously, I would really love to do another solo record.” In last August, Johns has teased the long overdue collaboration with Empire Of The Sun leader Luke Steele on his Instagram post with a vintage pic of himself and Steele with the caption: “Early DREAMS cumin soon.”

R.I.P. David Bowie

Iconic rock legends David Bowie died yesterday. Bowie’s Facebook page made the announcement this morning: Bowie had been fighting cancer for 18 months, and he died “peacefully” while surrounded by family. He turned 69 on Friday, the same day that he released his final album, ★ (Blackstar). Bowie’s son, the film director Duncan Jones, confirmed Bowie’s death on Twitter this morning, posting a photo of his infant self with Bowie and writing, “very sorry and sad to say it’s true.”

Guns N’ Roses Confirmed Coachella, Watch Reunion Tour Video Teaser

After being rumored to reunite in this year’s Coachella Music And Arts Festival, the version of Guns N’ Roses featuring Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan has been officially confirmed to headline the festival which will take place over two weekends, Apr. 15-17 and Apr. 22-24, at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. GnR will play two concerts at Coachella on Apr. 16 and 23. Slash and McKagan have both shared the same Coachella announcement image featuring the GnR bullet logo against a desert backdrop on their Facebook pages. Rose also later tweets confirming the band participation on the festival. Also reuniting for Coachella is LCD Soundsystem and others scheduled of making return are Of Monsters And Men, Foals, Halsey, James Bay, Rancid, M83, and more. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, 1/6 at 11AM PST via Coachella.com.

Guns N’ Roses Reportedly Reuniting At Coachella Next Year

Axl Rose and Slash haven’t performed together in over 20 years, but it looks like they’re ready to reunite on tour next year. Billboard confirms via “multiple sources” that original version of Guns N’ Roses will headline the Coachella music festival scheduled for Apr. 15-17 and 22-24 and followed by “as many as 25 football stadiums in North America in the summer of 2016.” They’re also slated to be one of the first acts to perform at the brand-new Las Vegas Arena, which will open 4/6/16. These shows would mark Rose and Slash’s first performances together since Use Your Illusion Tour concert in Buenos Aires in 7/17/93.

R.I.P. Lemmy Kilmister

Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister, bassist and frontman of heavy metal legends Motörhead and former member of Hawkwind, has died of cancer, only two days after his initial diagnosis of cancer and following years of other serious health problems. He was 70 years old. The rest of the band have shared an official statement via Facebook. Read below.

Former frontman for the highly influenced alternative rock band Stone Temple Pilots, Scott Weiland has reported died at age 48. Weiland’s manager took on his Instagram, mentioning him died in his sleep at a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota last night on his tour bus at 9PM, before his current touring band, the Wildabouts, was scheduled to play a show in Bloomington’s Medina Ballroom. The cause of death has not been revealed yet.

Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts. At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected.

UPDATED: According to TMZ, Weiland died in his sleep of cardiac arrest per reports from the first responder audio.

According to the audio, Scott — seen here in Toronto 2 days before his death in a pic with a fan — was not breathing and dispatchers conveyed the musician appeared to have gone into cardiac arrest.

Toxicology reports obtained by TMZ have shown the cause of Scott Weiland’s death: an overdose on cocaine, MDA (a form of ecstasy), and alcohol. The report from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner also mentioned that heart disease and asthma were “significant” factors, as was Weiland’s “multi-substance dependence.” The former Stone Temple Pilots frontman had a history of addiction.

Bruce Springsteen To Play SNL With Host Tina Fey & Amy Poehler

NBC recently announced the guests of their long running show Saturday Night Live Disember episodes of 41st season and Bruce Springsteen will serve as musical guest on its 9th episode of the season on Dec. 19 and will be co-hosted by actress Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Springsteen have been played on SNL for past 23 years since he made a debut on the show in 1992 (as seen in picture above.) It will be third times for Springsteen since their last appearing on the show on Matt Damon-hosted episode alongside E-Street Band in Oct. 2002.

Chester Bennington Quits Stone Temple Pilots

Chester Bennington’s stint as frontman with the Stone Temple Pilots is over. Bennington took on lead vocal duties in early 2013 when STP split with its wayward singer Scott Weiland. Now it's Bennington’s turn to depart. In a statement issued over the weekend, both parties say the decision to part ways was an amicable one. Mystery Behind Foo Fighters’ Countdown Clock Revealed

Last week, Foo Fighters launched a mysterious clock on their website, counting down to 11/22/15, right around midnight and that’s a Saturday night. Washington D.C. alternative rock radio station dj’s Mike Jones recently did some detective work on Foo Fighters’ mysterious Lobby countdown clock website during his honeymoon vacation in Austin, Texas. His research indicates that the band plan on releasing the 5 new songs the band recorded in Austin on Record Store Day Black Friday. Jones wrote that the framing of Foo Fighters’ logo on the website is identical to Hotel St. Cecilia’s logo in Austin. The photos the band have been releasing were also taken outside the hotel, as seen below in Jones’ photo.

Kurt Cobain’s MTV Unplugged Cardigan & Lock Of Hair Up For Auction

Kurt Cobain’s famous cardigan that he wore during Nirvana’s iconic MTV Unplugged concert in 1993 is part of a large selection of music memorabilia going up for auction through Julien’s Live — the home of celebrity and music memorabilia auctions. The cardigan’s a medium-sized Manhattan brand garment made of acrylic, mohair, and lycra with five-button closure (one button absent) with two exterior pockets, a burn hole and discoloration near left pocket and discoloration on right pocket. The cardigan “was obtained from a close friend” expects to fetch between $40,000 and $60,000. A lock of Cobain’s hair is also being offered for $4,000. The hair belongs to doll maker Dame Darcy, who received it from Cobain’s widow Courtney Love when Love make a doll for their daughter Frances Bean Cobain. Other notable items in the auction are locks of hair of John Lennon, Ringo Starr’s kickdrum head from the Beatles’ Ed Sullivan Show performance, Michael Jackson’s dental mold used to create his fangs in the “Thriller” video and Steven Tyler’s insurance card. R.I.P. Steve Mackay

The Stooges saxophonist Steve Mackay has sadly passed away just weeks after it was reported that he was battling sepsis. As Ultimate Classic Rock reports, the musician had been in a critical condition at a California hospital — he was 66 years old. Singer and former band member Iggy Pop took to Facebook earlier today to comment on Mackay’s tragic passing. “Steve was a classic '60s American guy, full of generosity and love for anyone he met,” Pop wrote. “Every time he put his sax to his lips and honked, he lightened my road and brightened the whole world. He was a credit to his group and his generation. To know him was to love him.” Mackay originally joined the band in 1970, though he left in the same year. He rejoined the group in 2003 and performed with them up until this year, when he became ill. He performed on The Stooges’ sophomore album, Fun House in 1970, as well as 2007’s The Wildness and Ready To Die in 2013. Watch Steve Mackay performed with The Stooges on The Colbert Report in 2013.

Gail Zappa, Frank Zappa’s widow and head of the Zappa Family Trust, died at home on Wednesday, Oct. 7, according to a statement released by her family. She was 70 years old. Gail was responsible for releasing more than 30 of her prolific husband’s albums after his death in 1993. As head of the Zappa Family Trust, Gail protected her husband’s musical legacy and sought to ensure none of his material was used or released without her prior authorisation. Gail was born Adelaide Gail Sloatman in Jan. 1945, and lived in London and New York before hitchhiking to Los Angeles, according to a Rolling Stones report. She met Frank when she was working as a secretary at LA nightclub Whisky A Go Go. The pair married when she was 22 years old, and pregnant with son Dweezil. She is survived by Dweezil, Ahmet and her two daughters Moon Unit and Diva. At the time of writing, the cause of her death has not been confirmed.

On Nov. 13, a collection of songs from Kurt Cobain’s personal tapes will be released as Montage of Heck: The Home Recordings. The album will be released on CD, cassette, and digital formats. It will be released on 2xLP, a 13-track standard edition and 31-track deluxe edition will be available. Montage of Heck: The Home Recordings contains song snippets, demos, “musical experiments,” and material that eventually ended up on Nirvana albums. It will be followed on Nov. 20 by the previously rumored “And I Love Her” b/w “Sappy” (Early Demo) 7" vinyl. Montage of Heck will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on Nov. 13. A super deluxe Blu-ray/DVD package will include the documentary, the 31-track soundtrack on CD and cassette, 48 minutes of ancillary interviews, a 160-page book of interviews and images from the Cobain archives, a movie poster, postcards, bookmark, and a puzzle.

Cassettes are as old as time itself and the culture of the tape has not gone away, even after the rise and fall of CDs. Because of their cheap manufacturing costs and how easy they are to give out at shows, cassettes are experiencing something of a revival and Cassette Store Day started in 2013 to draw attention to that niche, much in the same way that Record Store Day did a few years earlier. And since the biggest seller of RSD ’15 was in fact a cassette tape, it feels like the event is poised to have its biggest year yet.

Silverchair’s Daniel Johns Goes Online

After nearly three years since Aussie rocker Silverchair decided to go on “indefinite hibernation,” it’s been almost silence amongst of the trio. Their drummer Ben Gillies breaks the first silence when did an sideband project called Bento which Gillies fronted it. For their frontman Daniel Johns decided to go more privately on his life, ever on online world. Till yesterday Johns appeared to start a Facebook and Twitter account. Beyond his silence, Johns have previously has did a collaboration with multiple artist, performed with Josh Wakely for short film on TEDxSydney in 2011, recorded a theme song for Qantas airlines, performed with Kimbra and Australia legendary composer Van Dyke Parks at Adelaide Festival in early 2013 and recent collabration with Aussie rapper 360 on his song “Impossible” when Johns contribute a chorus part of the song. The duo also released a music video for the song today. Johns also confirmed by itself on his upcoming solo project is on worked and will drop later this year trough his new social network account, check below.

The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame officially announced 2014’s inductees were

Nirvana,
KISS,
Peter Gabriel,
Hall & Oates,
Cat Stevens, and
Linda Ronstadt.

The E Street Band will received the Award For Musical Excellence while The Beatles manager Brian Epstein and the Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham will both receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award. This inductees beat this year’s previous list of nominees (The Replacements, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, N.W.A., LL Cool J, The Zombies, Deep Purple, Link Wray, The Meters, and Yes.) It was Nirvana’s first year of eligibility since they released first single “Love Buzz” 25 years ago while KISS’ will be their 15th times and Peter Gabriel, who was inducted with his band Genesis in 2010 also get his first as solo artist. The induction ceremony takes place April 10th next year at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center in Cleveland Ohio and Nirvana’s late frontman, Kurt Cobain will be remembered as he passed away 20 years to date on Apr. 5, 1994.
