Download Art Of Anarchy Debut Album With Scott Weiland For Free

Back in June, rock supergroup Art Of Anarchy released their first self-titled album featuring former Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland on vocal. Now, they are giving away the album for free as a tribute to Weiland who died earlier this month. Weiland contributed vocals to the project, but later distanced himself from the band and insisted he was not a full-time member of the group. The remaining members including former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal and Disturbed bassist John Moyer, have now announced the record they worked on with Weiland is being released as a free download to honour his memory. The band members explain in a statement, “In memory of Scott Weiland, we would like to offer the Art Of Anarchy record digitally for free to the world during this holiday season. We hope everyone enjoys listening as much as we enjoyed creating it.” Download the album here.

Watch Stone Temple Pilots Bandmates Share Memories & Tribute To Scott Weiland

The late former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland died early this month and his STP bandmates have posted a new video that pays tribute to what Weiland could do at his best. The three surviving band members, The DeLeo brothers’ Robert and Dean with the drummer Eric Kretz have posted a video entitled “Memories Of Candles And Incense” via the band official website featured themselves in a studio, listening to a never-released master of “Atlanta,” a song from their 1999 album No. 4. In the video, the three of them sit and listen, offering somber commentary on the song, all of them marveling at what Weiland did on it. Watch below.

Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell paid tribute to late Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland, who passed away last week at the age of 48, at his recent concerts in Melbourne. Cornell dedicated his performance of Temple of the Dog’s “Say Hello 2 Heaven” to Weiland at a show took place at Palais Theatre. “Say Hello 2 Heaven” originally was recorded as a tribute to Mother Love Bone singer Andy Wood in 1991. Scott Weiland Retrospective

Pre-STP era

Scott Weiland was born Scott Richard Kline in San Jose, California; he changed his name at age five after his stepfather adopted him. He moved to Ohio as a child but came back to California for college. There, in Long Beach, he met future STP bassist Robert DeLeo at a 1985 Black Flag show. Legend has it that after talking for a while, they both figured out that they were dating the same girl. The band formed shortly thereafter, first taking the name Mighty Joe Young. The band spent a few years playing around San Diego and eventually changed their name.


The Birth of STP

In 1992, they released their debut album Core, which would go on to become one of the most massive LPs of the early grunge era. STP had no connection to the Seattle scene that was capturing the popular imagination at the time, but they sounded a whole lot like the bands who came from there, especially Pearl Jam. Core peaked at #3 on the Billboard charts and eventually sold eight million copies; four or five of its tracks become major alt-rock radio hits. But the album also got them off to a bit of a rough start, culturally speaking. Especially on the breakout single “Plush,” they sounded so much like Pearl Jam that many critics and fans wrote them off as label-created grunge imitators. Even though the band was still finding its sound, Weiland’s rich and resonant vocals were a tremendous part of their appeal.


In 1994, Stone Temple Pilots released Purple, their sophomore album, which thickened and deepened their sound, quieting many of their detractors. The album embraced a sort of grizzled classic-rock sound, and it proved nearly as popular as Core, selling six million copies and spawning three major radio hits.

But the band’s winning streak wouldn’t last. In 1996, they embraced glam and psych-rock influences on their their third album Tiny Music… Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop and convinced still more critics that they were the real deal. The album still sold a few million copies, and three of its singles were hits, but it never reached the same level of success as its predecessors. And the band had to ditch most of its touring plans when Weiland’s issues with addiction, which would plague him for the rest of his life, became a major problem.

Beginning of the End for Stone Temple Pilots

In the wake of all that, STP went on hiatus, and Weiland released the stripped-down solo album 12 Bar Blues. Then, in 1999, STP got back together to release No. 4, and they followed it with Shangri-La Dee Da in 2001. The albums weren’t flops, but they were nowhere near as omnipresent as those early STP albums. And the band seemed a bit anachronistic in an era when nobody really knew what alternative was anymore and nü metal had replaced grunge as the world’s most popular rock subgenre. (STP toured with Linkin Park, whose Chester Bennington would later replace Weiland as STP’s frontman, on the 2001 Family Values tour.) At the same time, Weiland’s problems were becoming worse, and he served a five-month prison term for drug possession in 1999.


Velvet Revolver era

On the final date of STP’s 2002 tour, Weiland reportedly got into a fight with guitarist Dean DeLeo, and the band broke up not long after. That same year, Weiland teamed up with the former Guns N’ Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum to form the supergroup Velvet Revolver. The band’s 2004 debut Contraband was a big success, selling two million copies and bringing a level of riff-rock sleaze that seemed refreshing in a time when that had mostly gone away. Their 2007 follow-up Libertad sold only about a tenth of that. That same year, Weiland agreed to reunite with Stone Temple Pilots to play a 2008 summer festival tour, which eventually caused Weiland to leave Velvet Revolver. (He also released a solo album called “Happy” In Galoshes in 2008.)


STP toured heavily for the next few years and released a self-titled album in 2010. But things got tense between Weiland and the rest of the band again. Weiland wanted to play Core on tour to celebrate the album’s 20th anniversary, and the rest of the band didn’t think he had the vocal range to tour those songs. Weiland made noises about touring Core as a solo act, further pissing off his bandmates. And in 2013, Stone Temple Pilots announced that they’d “terminated” Weiland from the band. They also sued him shortly thereafter.

Weiland’s Final Years

As he was falling out with STP, Weiland also worked as a solo act, forming the Wildabouts and releasing a covers album and a Christmas LP, both of which were immediately treated like jokes. He also became a frequent presence on websites like this one, entirely for the wrong reasons — because he pissed off fans by acting dismissively at meet-and-greets, or because his live vocal performances had become notably awful. Last month, when Chester Bennington left Stone Temple Pilots — something Weiland knew about beforehand — there was some hope that maybe he could mend fences with his old band yet again. That obviously never happened.


But despite all the issues he battled throughout his life, Weiland was a powerful, charismatic vocalist and a dynamic frontman.

Scott Weiland died last night at the age of 48, the end of a life defined by rock ‘n’ roll excess at its most triumphant and destructive. In one sense, it’s amazing that a man who lived that hard managed to live this long. For a variety of good and bad reasons, Stone Temple Pilots never quite got their due as one of the finest rock bands of the ’90s. Their discography is littered with genius, and each one of their first five studio albums holds up. A big part of that awesomeness was the expert craftsmanship of Dean and Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz, the power trio that provided STP’s musical muscle. Scott Weiland was one of rock’s most dynamic frontman of the past twenty three years; consistently reinventing himself and taking risks throughout the years with Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver. Though Weiland had recently been trying to bring his solo career to the forefront of rock music with Blaster, many have no idea that he already had quite an eclectic catalog of solo songs under his belt. His first two studio LPs, 12 Bar Blues (1998) and Happy In Galoshes (2008) were a couple of the most ambitious alternative records of their time; even critics who had previously given Weiland hellish press in STP were left stunned by 12 Bar Blues. Former frontman for the highly influenced alternative rock band Stone Temple Pilots, Scott Weiland has reported died at age 48. Weiland’s manager took on his Instagram, mentioning him died in his sleep at a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota last night on his tour bus at 9PM, before his current touring band, the Wildabouts, was scheduled to play a show in Bloomington’s Medina Ballroom. The cause of death has not been revealed yet.

Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts. At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected.

UPDATED: According to TMZ, Weiland died in his sleep of cardiac arrest per reports from the first responder audio.

According to the audio, Scott — seen here in Toronto 2 days before his death in a pic with a fan — was not breathing and dispatchers conveyed the musician appeared to have gone into cardiac arrest.

Toxicology reports obtained by TMZ have shown the cause of Scott Weiland’s death: an overdose on cocaine, MDA (a form of ecstasy), and alcohol. The report from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner also mentioned that heart disease and asthma were “significant” factors, as was Weiland’s “multi-substance dependence.” The former Stone Temple Pilots frontman had a history of addiction.

Nine years ago, Pharrell Williams worked on a third track called “Happy,” this one with former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland. It was recorded in 2006 for Weiland’s sophomore solo album, but it was shelved after Williams claimed the track for himself. Weiland’s album was called “Happy” In Galoshes, an apparent nod to the track that never made it on the album, and it showed up on a promo CD that was sent out before the album’s official release. A mass supergroup The Wondergirls consisting mass of rock musician previously unreleased demo called “Circles” recently surfaced online. The track featured Scott Weiland on lead vocals, Queens Of The Stone Age/A Perfect Circle’s Troy Van Leeuwen and Chris Lloyd on guitar, Thirty Seconds To Mars’ Shannon Leto on drums, and Porno For Pyros’ Martyn Denoble on bass. The track recorded in 1999 surfaced on Stone Temple Pilots fansite Below Empty as actor/musician Ashley Hamilton (also part of the band) released the song. The Wondergirls is a side project from the late 90′s/early 2000′s that was scrapped due to legal issues surrounding the involvement of musicians from so many different labels. Latest drama between Stone Temple Pilots and Scott Weiland come to the peak at end of last week when the band officially sued his former frontman. The band (Stone Temple Pilots as Plaintiff) filed a lawsuit again him (Scott Weiland as Defendants) claiming to have lost millions of dollars on the Stone Temple Pilots 20th anniversary tour because Weiland was late for shows and promotional events.

“Enough is enough,” says band’s lawsuit. “Without relief from the court, Weiland will continue violating STP’s rights, misappropriating STP assets and interfering with the band’s livelihood.” Stone Temple Pilots recently fired Weiland and replaced him with Chester Bennington, the singer of Linkin Park. Book Review: Scott Weiland "Not Dead & Not for Sale : A Memoir"

 I’ve always been a fan of Scott Weiland. Whether it was Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver or his solo stuff, I’ve enjoyed the music he has created. Needless to say, fandom doesn’t make me blind to the reality that the rock star has lived in for quite some time…drugs, public disputes, general excess…

 Weiland has always intrigued me. I love his music and when you couple that with his lifestyle, he makes for quite an interesting story.

 Fortunately for me and everyone else intrigued by this man, on May 17th, 2011 you can read all about that interesting story in Not Dead & Not For Sale, Weiland’s memoir.

 For Weiland' fan, they was ecstatic to jump into the story of this guy’s life. Definitely they wanted to hear the dirty details about his heroin abuse, what it was like to be part of STP, go solo, join forces with Slash and then go back to STP, and so much more.

 The details of his drug use are far from the dirty, nitty gritty stuff we got with Nikki Sixx’s The Heroin Diaries.In fact, at times, it’s easy to forget that Weiland is talking about drugs. He describes his relationship with drugs in such a poetic way that it comes off as being, well, a true relationship.

 I’ve heard a couple complaints that he didn’t go into enough detail about his drug use, but if you really hone in on what he writes, he gives you all the detail you need. You feel the effect that heroin had on him, his friends, his relationships…his life. You feel the effect that blow had on him…”My belief is that the coke I was ingesting activated a paranormal force.” Pills, booze, pot…it’s all covered.

 I found it interesting that his first experience with pills was right before his interview on Headbanger’s Ball, where instead of doing a traditional interview, Dean DeLeo and him performed “Plush” acoustically. This performance has went on to be a huge success, being offered on a CD single from England for the song “Creep” and eventually being featured on STP’s greatest hits compilation. And it’s not rare to hear this song spun on a radio station…to think that his first experience with pills produced this song and this performance, well, it’s eye-opening to the reader.

 I really damn sure his fans would enjoy reading this memoir, from cover to cover. The photos Weiland included, the stories he told. Did you know he was raped by a high school boy when he was young? Did you know he was nearly murdered by three strangers in Paris? Did you know that a young STP emphatically turned down an opportunity to open for Aerosmith?

 From the public disputes with his fellow STP bandmates to the self-, but admittedly assisted, destruction of his former wife Mary Forsberg Weiland, Not Dead & Not For Sale is well worth your time. At certain points, it might be hard to follow Weiland’s stream of consciousness, but once you catch up, the papers make perfect sense.

 Scott Weiland has been nominated for six Grammys (winning two). Between STP and Velvet Revolver, he’s sold more than 40 million records.

 This is Scott Weiland’s story, and what a hell of story it is.
