Ten Commandos – “Staring Down The Dust” (Feat. Mark Lanegan)

Ten Commandos basically is a rock supergroup consisting Pearl Jam’s Matt Cameron, Soundgarden’s Ben Shepherd, Queens Of The Stone Age’s Alain Johannes, and OFF! member Dimitri Coats. Their new single, “Staring Down The Dust,” off of their forthcoming debut album, features vocals by Screaming Trees frontman and part-time Queen Of The Stone Age Mark Lanegan. All of the members of Ten Commandos have collaborated with one another in the past, and Cameron told Rolling Stone that this is the first song the group recorded together. Listen below via Spotify.

Watch Pearl Jam, Coldplay Global Citizen Fest In A Full-Length Video

Last saturday, the 2015 Global Citizen Festival took place at Central Park, New York, featured sets from Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Beyoncé and Pearl Jam. With guest appearances from Ariana Grande, Common, Tori Kelly and Sunidhi Chauhan also performed. Coldplay debuted a new song during their set. It’s an uplifting ballad called “Amazing Day,” and Chris Martin introduced it by saying “This is about the wonderful things on earth.” Ariana Grande also joined Coldplay onstage to perform her song “Just A Little Bit Of Your Heart.” Later on Pearl Jam set, sitting without his band on acoustic guitar, Eddie Vedder was joined on Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song” by Beyoncé, who performed and introduced First Lady Michelle Obama earlier in the night. A clip from late civil rights leader Nelson Mandela’s anti-poverty speech in London in 2005 played over them mid-song. Pearl Jam stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert as a musical guest. Before they perform, they sit in with the host Stephen Colbert to talk about being headline of Global Citizen Festival. On the show proper, they played “Mind Your Manners,” their 2013 single. And in a moment that looked unplanned, they also covered Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World,” a song that they’ve played many, many times. Colbert himself, joined them onstage to harmonize on the chorus. Watch all below below.

Watch 100 Ethiopian Kids Sing Pearl Jam’s “Even Flow” In Learning English

Pearl Jam 1991’s hit song “Even Flow” is now apparently helping a whole school full of Ethiopian kids learning English. Matt Westerberg, a Peace Corps member who’s teaching English at a small town in Northern Ethiopia. He writes about how he’s been using ’90s rock, and “Even Flow” in particular, as a teaching tool:

“I am a huge fan of Pearl Jam, and 90’s rock in general (Nirvana, Soundgarden, Rage Against The Machine, etc). After class one day I jokingly wrote the chorus line to Pearl Jam’s “Even Flow” on the chalkboard. I thought it would be funny to have the kids try and learn it. They laughed their way through it. The next day, they demanded to try it again. After a while we went through most of the song day by day as a motivational tool. At first it was all just a joke, but after awhile, the students began to really build confidence through learning the song. Kids that were shy and quiet all year were suddenly more confident speaking up in class and loved participating in the song.”

Pearl Jam performed “Not for You,” “Rearviewmirror” and “Daughter” on Saturday Night Live aired on 4/16/1994. The songs “Rearviewmirror” and “Daughter” is off their sophomore album Vs. (which turns 20 today). “Not for You” was played live for the first time on television almost eight months before the release of Vitalogy, the band third album. The episode aired eight days after the discovery of the body of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. During the goodnights, Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder lifts his jacket to reveal the letter K written on his shirt as a tribute to Cobain. The show hosted by actor, Emilio Esteves. Vs. Now 20-Year-Old

Pearl Jam second studio album Vs. is celebrating its 20 years anniversary this week since released in October 19, 1993 via Epic Records. The album was the band’s first collaboration with producer Brendan O’Brien. Selling over 1 million copy in the first week set the record for the highest selling in a first week and its last for five years.

Pearl Jam took to superstardom like deer in headlights upon the release. Vs., did not appear anywhere in the packaging, and they refused to release any singles or videos as the band took refuge in willful obscurity to maintain their rigorous standards of integrity in the face of massive commercial success. (Ironically, many fans then paid steep prices for import CD singles, a situation the band eventually rectified.) The eccentricities underline Pearl Jam’s almost paranoid aversion to charges of hypocrisy or egotism – but it also made sense to use the spotlight for progress. You could see that reasoning in their ensuing battle with Ticketmaster, and you could hear it in the record itself. Vs. is often Eddie Vedder at his most strident, both lyrically and vocally. It's less oblique than Ten in its topicality, and sometimes downright dogmatic; having the world's ear renders Vedder unable to resist a few simplistic potshots at favorite white-liberal targets. Yet a little self-righteousness is an acceptable price to pay for the passionate immediacy that permeates Vs. It's a much rawer, looser record than Ten, feeling like a live performance; Vedder practically screams himself hoarse on a few songs. The band consciously strives for spontaneity, admirably pushing itself into new territory -- some numbers are decidedly punky, and there are also a couple of acoustic-driven ballads, which are well suited to Vedder’s sonorous low register. Sometimes, that spontaneity comes at the expense of Ten’s marvelous craft – a few songs here are just plain underdeveloped, with supporting frameworks that don't feel very sturdy. But, of everything that does work, the rockers are often frightening in their intensity, and the more reflective songs are mesmerizing. Vs. may not reach the majestic heights of Ten, but at least half the record stands with Pearl Jam’s best work.

Pearl Jam Lightning Bolt Now Streaming on iTunes

Pearl Jam forthcoming 10th studio album, Lightning Bolt is set to be released next week, internationally on October 14, 2013, before being released in the US on the next day. Lightning Bolt is the follow-up to their 2007’s Backspacer, produced by their long time producer, Brendan O’Brien. The album is now streaming on iTunes for a week ahead of its upcoming week release.

Carrie Brownstein Interview Pearl Jam – Watch

Pearl Jam just released Danny Clinch’s short film recently which featured four influenced people interviewing the band in a short footage in which they discuss their forthcoming tenth studio album Lightning Bolt. IFC has released the full interview footage between the band members and one of four interviewer’s Carrie Brownstein in ten chapters. In the video, the band talks about meeting some of their idols and the making of Lightning Bolt. Watch below:

Pearl Jam Release Lightning Bolt Short Film by Danny Clinch – Watch

After being cooperative in Pearl Jam two most recent music video, “Sirens” and “Mind Your Manners,” once again filmmaker, photographer and their longtime friend itself, Danny Clinch, directed a mini documentary titled Lightning Bolt – A Short Film by Danny Clinch. In the short film, the band sat down with Judd Apatow, Carrie Brownstein, Mark Richards, and Steve Gleason to talk about the band’s new studio album, Lightning Bolt. The director Clinch captured these conversations and the band’s rehearsals in their hometown of Seattle. Watch the short film below:

Pearl Jam Announce New Album Lightning Bolt

Pearl Jam will release their much-anticipated 10th studio album, Lightning Bolt, on Monkeywrench Records/Republic Records on October 15, 2013 in the US. The album will be released on October 14, 2013 worldwide and distributed by UMG International. Produced by Brendan O’Brien, Lightning Bolt marks Pearl Jam’s first studio album since the highly acclaimed Backspacer, which was released nearly four years ago in September of 2009. Lightning Bolt is available for pre-order today at their official website and iTunes. The first track off of the album, “Mind Your Manners” also released worldwide alongside the announcement.
