Mark Kozelek – “Win” (Feat. Mike Patton) (David Bowie Cover)

Mark Kozelek has announced an all-covers album called Mark Kozelek Sings Favorites, which will be out this spring. The LP features Kozelek singing songs by artists including Modest Mouse, Bob Seger, and Waylon Jennings, accompanied solely by piano and a few guest singers like Faith No More’s Mike Patton and Low’s Mimi Parker. As a first taste, he’s shared his version of David Bowie’s Young Americans track “Win” with backing vocals from Patton, who also sings on 10CC’s “I’m Not In Love.” Listen over on Kozelek’s official website here (or below) and check out the rest of the tracklist below.

Yuck – “Cashout” (Fugazi Cover)

Next month, British punk trios Yuck will release a new album called Stranger Things. But today they’re taking some time to acknowledge their forebears with a cover of Fugazi’s “Cashout,” off their 2001 album The Argument. Listen below.

Greg Dulli – “Modern Love” (David Bowie Cover)

The Afghan Whigs frontman Greg Dulli is getting ready to embark on a solo tour of Europe and North America, playing songs from across his career in smaller venues. The recent passing of David Bowie moved him to shared a wizened, mostly-acoustic take on “Modern Love,” Bowie’s classic 1983 new-wave soul single. Dulli’s take on the song is scorched and intense, with a few strings there to lift things up on the chorus. Use the widget below to stream or download it.

Watch Jimmy Fallon As Bob Dylan Cover “Hotline Bling” On The Tonight Show

Last night’s The Tonight Show, Host Jimmy Fallon impersonated an iconic folk-rocker, the ’70s Rolling Thunder Revue-era Bob Dylan singing Drake’s “Hotline Bling.” This version, which adopted the melody and chords from Dylan’s own “Positively 4th Street,” bore little resemblance to Aubrey Graham’s original, but then, the real Dylan doesn’t even stay true to his own songs in concert. Doveman – “Lazarus” (Feat. Glen Hansard) (David Bowie Cover)

A whole lot of musicians are having a whole lot of feelings about David Bowie’s passing right about now, We’ve already gotten Bowie covers from the likes of EL VY and Britt Daniel, and now pianist/singer Thomas Bartlett, aka Doveman, has given us another. While most of the tributes we’ve heard have been covers of Bowie’s older work, artists honoring their all-time favorite songs, Bartlett instead chose to take on “Lazarus,” the smoky, haunting Blackstar lead single. Frequent collaborator Glen Hansard provides “harmony + moral support,” and Alec Bemis produces. Listen below.

Kimbra – “Making Friends” (Mew Cover)

Last year, Danish prog-rock quartet Kimbra came back with an album called +-. And now, New Zealand pop singer Kimbra recorded her own version of the album track “Making Friends.” Listen below.

Britt Daniel – “Never Let Me Down” (David Bowie Cover)

Spoon frontman Britt Daniel shared an acoustic cover of “Never Let Me Down,” off of David Bowie’s 1987 album of the same name. Daniel’s changed the lyrics a bit in this version to serve as an ode to the artist, subbing in “You never let me down” for the usual refrain. Listen below.

Watch EL VY Cover David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” On Stephen Colbert

EL VY, the side project from the National’s Matt Berninger and Menomena’s Brent Knopf, stopped by the Late Show With Stephen Colbert Monday. They performed a nice version of the title track from their debut album Return To The Moon. They were not just done yet as they teamed up with Jon Batiste And Stay Human, Colbert’s house band, to cover David Bowie’s 1983 dance-rock megahit “Let’s Dance,” as a tribute to Bowie’s passing yesterday. Watch Billy Joel Cover The Rolling Stones With Jimmy Fallon On The Tonight Show & At MSG

Last Weddnesday (1/6), Billy Joel was a guest on Fallon’s The Tonight Show, and he ended up doing a couple of performances. On the show, Fallon sat down with Joel and the Roots to do an off-the-cuff cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Beast Of Burden,” which gave Fallon yet another chance to bust out his eerily precise Mick Jagger impersonation. Joel suggested bringing Fallon on stage during his performance at Madison Square Garden the next night. Come Thursday, Fallon made his way up mid show and the duo sang another the Rolling Stone’s song “Start Me Up.” Watch both performance below.

Listen Chris Cornell Sing “Say Hello 2 Heaven” In Tribute To Scott Weiland

Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell paid tribute to late Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland, who passed away last week at the age of 48, at his recent concerts in Melbourne. Cornell dedicated his performance of Temple of the Dog’s “Say Hello 2 Heaven” to Weiland at a show took place at Palais Theatre. “Say Hello 2 Heaven” originally was recorded as a tribute to Mother Love Bone singer Andy Wood in 1991. David Bazan – “Read My Mind” (The Killers Cover)

Polyvinyl Records launched a 4-Track Singles Series last year which a different artist will record a new song via a Tascam four-track recorder every month during the year and the subscribers will receive it on 7″ vinyl. The latest participant is the former Pedro The Lion frontman David Bazan, who take on The Killers’ “Read My Mind.” Listen to it below.

Phoenix – “Alone On Christmas Day” (Feat. Bill Murray) (The Beach Boys Cover)

Phoenix released their new holiday single “Alone On Christmas Day” which they made for Bill Murray’s Netflix special A Very Murray Christmas. It’s a cover of an unreleased 1979’s The Beach Boys track. Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Paul Shaffer, and Buster Poindexter feature on the track. Listen to it below.

There, in the city where an Eagle Of Death Metal concert recently became the site of a murderous terrorist attack, they became the latest band to cover Eagles Of Death Metal’s “I Love You All The Time.” The band shared the lve footage on their official Youtube channel, watch below.

Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold shared a solo cover of the Five Keys’ 1956 R&B single “Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind,” featuring past collaborator Neal Morgan on percussion. The song was posted to Fleet Foxes’ official Facebook page along with the note “Happy holidays – here’s a cover,” and the track’s SoundCloud cover art is a photo of Japanese writer Yukio Mishima. Early this month, Stone Sour shared a cover version of The Rolling Stones classic “Gimme Shelter” which they teamed up with Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale for Record Store Day’s Black Friday special release on 7″ vinyl-only EP Straight Outta Burbank. Early this year, David Lynch presented Ringo Starr with the Lifetime Of Peace & Love Award at a benefit show for Lynch’s foundation. The concert featured a few artists performing songs from Starr’s album, among them Joe Walsh, Ben Harper, Ben Folds, The Head And The Heart, and more. Those performances were compiled into an album titled Ringo Starr: The Lifetime Of Peace & Love Tribute Concert, which is due out next month. Australian indie rocker Courtney Barnett has been performing a lot of covers lately such as Jack White-produced of The Boys Next Door’s “Shivers,” and a cover of the Australian band You Am I’s 1998 single “Heavy Heart” at Austin City Limits. Barnett performed in a tribute concert celebrating the 40th anniversary of Patti Smith seminal album’s Horses at Melbourne’s Town Hall back in Oct 18.
